Hi all,

I'm using Nero InCD to handle my CD/DVD recorder with RW disks as a standard disk.
With InCD, all aplications get the possibility to write, rename, delete etc. individual files to the CD/DVD RW disks, except for SmartPix (8.05) that has a very strange behavior:

I created a new test database (on the HDD) and added some files already present on a DVD+RW.
This worked fine, except the process is very (very) slow.

1) If I unload the DVD, I still have the keywords and thumbs (stored within the database), and a "Load error message" in the database display (good).

When I reload the DVD, nothing changes:
- A single click displays the same "Load error message"
- A double click brings up a window stating "The file <filename> is located on the cdrom <disk label , serial xxxx>, insert the cdrom in your E drive".
When I hit ok, the file is loaded in the external editor, but still not displayed in SPM database view (folders view is ok).

2) I tried to update the database:
- Again the process is very (very very) slow.
- All files are considered as duplicates (option to check duplicates on insert).
If I choose not to insert them, the result is the same as above.
If I choose to insert them, I get a database with duplicate sets of files (as many as updates).
Each duplicate is considered to be on a different disk (the label is always the same, but the serial number is different for each update).

Please help!

Hi Nigel,

It happened that I also got some problems with other applications.
Seems like it came from the new InCD version bundled with Nero v7.

I had to give up with support and switched to an equivalent product: Roxio DLA (Drive Letter Access).

Everything is ok now and I'll be able to free some hard disk space!
You can discard my request. Sorry for inconvenience,
Thierry

OK, I'll have to investigate the issue further when we do the next update.

"Double check for CD-ROM errors" is checked.

I have checked with different disks (DVD+RW, CD-RW), with the same results.
When I use the sames disks previously recorded with Nero, it's OK, and I get a reasonnable performance (5 to 10 times faster than with InCD disks).
The problem seems to come from InCD-SPM compatibility:

Nero (std) CD's are Mode 1, ISO 9660 Joliet.
InCD uses Mode 2, ISO 9660 Joliet, UDF 1.50 preformated CD/DVD RW disks.
It writes on the disk using the packet writing method/UDF format.
This permits any application to create/append/rename/remove files on the RW disks just like on hard drives.

The format of InCD disks seems to be corrupted by the writes done with SPM: after some files add, move or deletes, InCD becomes unable to recognize the disks as regular InCD file system disks (UDF).

Hi Thierry

Long time no chat :-)

It sounds like the disk does not have a consistent serial number, so SPM does not believe the correct disk is inserted.

Under File>Options, Other, Advanced, what setting do you have for "Always double check CD-ROM errors"?
