Dear Xequte Software user,

Well we are still on schedule for 2002! OK, so it's only February and our schedule hasn't included any major releases just yet, but there are a few on the horizon.

We do have an exciting new release of Diji Album. Read about it below, and hopefully you will be as ecstatic about the new features as we were when developing them.

We are also continuing with our Plug-In development, with a new plug-in offering improved photo editing functionality. We hope to have new ones later in the year for such functions as browsing of Internet files.

Updates for SPM, MegaView and MLK have also been released (details below).

If you have any questions about these releases please us.

Regards

Nigel Cross

* DIJI ALBUM V3.1 RELEASED

A major update to Diji Album has been released which adds some cool new functions that will make your albums even better. These include special buttons and a Table of Contents object.

You can also display a contents pane on the right of the program, which provides a good visual representation of your album layout and allows you to easily rename and reorder pages.

There is improved support for popular third party programs, including Paintshop Pro, PhotoShop, Kodak Photo-CD and Autodesk images.

Here is a top ten list of changes:

  1. Added button object which provides special text and/or graphic buttons for common functions such as playing and stopping slideshows, switching pages, etc.
  2. New contents object inserts a table of contents into your page which updates automatically
  3. Added support for: *.FAX; *.BW; *.RGB; *.RGBA; *.SGI; *.CEL; *.PIC; *.PCD; *.RLA; *.RPF; *.CUT; *.PAL; *.PSD; *.PDD; *.PSP;
  4. Added: Optional contents pane that allows you to easily switch and reorder pages
  5. Support for Photo Editing plug-in which offers "Red Eye" removal and lossless JPEG rotation and cropping
  6. Support for one click exporting to Diji Album from Smart Pix and MegaView (v5.31 or greater)
  7. Automatic sorting of images by date, name, etc. when using Insert Pages Wizard
  8. Added: Kiosk mode allows you to lock the functionality on a public terminal
  9. Added: Embedding of true type fonts
  10. Added: Tip of the Day

A complete list of changes is available at:

Diji Album v3.1 is a free upgrade for all registered v3.* users, no new key is required.

You can download the new version from:

* UPDATE TO SMART PIX MANAGER AND MEGAVIEW

The V5.4 release of SPM and MegaView is not a significant update, however if your current version is v5.3 then you SHOULD update because of some performance issues in that release.

Top ten new features introduced since v5.3:

  1. Added print option: Print Filename and Description
  2. Added: Optional system tray icon during slideshow (allows you to control multimedia and the slideshow)
  3. Added new Option: Add keywords from words in filename (SPM Only)
  4. Added new option: Add file date as a keyword (SPM Only)
  5. Support for new Plug-In for lossless JPEG rotation and cropping and red eye removal
  6. Now copes better with printing and thumbnail display for Monochrome images
  7. Fixed problems related to auto-resizing of images when e-mailing
  8. Added: Web style directional keys for moving back and forth between recent folders
  9. Added: Now can optionally always start up in 'My Pictures' folders
  10. Added: Option to launch large files to the default windows player (on by default)

* NEW PHOTO EDITING PLUG-IN FOR SMART PIX, MEGAVIEW AND DIJI ALBUM

A new plug-in adds some key features for users working with photos from digital cameras:

  • Red Eye Removal: A new button allows you to fix the "Red Eye" effect that is common with flash photography
  • Lossless Cropping and Rotation of JPEG's: Every time a JPEG image is saved it loses a little of its quality. However, with this plug-in, whenever a JPEG is rotated or cropped it is performed losslessly (i.e. with no loss of quality)

The plug-in is free and can be downloaded from:
http://www.xequte.com/plugins/

* IMPORTANT UPDATE TO MAILLIST KING

If you have Outlook 2002 or 2000 with the patches installed then you will have encountered the Security warnings that Outlook frequently throws up when programs such as MLK try to access it.

The 3.04 release uses Extended MAPI to circumvent this issue. v3.04 is a free upgrade, Pro users should e-mail Sales for the new download. Other users can download the upgrade from: http://www.xequte.com/maillistking/download.html

To take advantage of the integration methods in v3.04 go into File|Options, Advanced and set:

  • Sender E-mail Retrieval to 'Use Extended MAPI'
  • Use Extended MAPI to integrate with Outlook should be checked
  • Sending Option should be set to 'Use Extended MAPI' if you are currently using the OLE or MAPI options

* PROGRAM TIPS

* Smart Pix/MegaView/EZ-Pix:

So you've taken some photos on your shiny new digital camera, how can you share these with your friends?

If you have a web site then you can use the HTML creation tools in Smart Pix, MegaView or EZ-Pix to put an indexed image collection up on the web.

Here are the steps:

  1. Acquire the images from the camera (using the Acquire function or the software that came with the camera)
  2. Browse to the folder with the images
  3. Add descriptions to each of the images by right-clicking the photos and selecting 'Edit Description'
  4. Create your HTML Index using Thumbnails|HTML Creation Wizard
  5. Upload your web page using the tools recommend by your Host Provider (generally this is FTP software such as CuteFTP)
  6. E-mail the link to your friends

If you would prefer an album format rather than an image index then try Diji Album Editor instead.

* Diji Album:

V3.1 introduces a new feature to Diji Album: the contents pane. This pane, which appears on the left of your album page, displays a tree-style layout of the pages and sections within your album.

You can display the contents pane by selecting View|Contents Pane.

While editing, the pane is useful in allowing you to reorder pages just by dragging and dropping them to a new location. You can also rename pages and set them as 'New Sections' just by right-clicking on them.

The contents pane is also useful for recipients of your albums, allowing them to easily navigate your album. You can specify whether to display or hide the contents pane when recipients view your album under File|Album Properties
