Xequte October Newsletter: No News is Good News

15 October 2003

In this Issue:
* Beta testers sought for Smart Pix/MegaView
* Program Tips
* Removing yourself from this List

Dear Xequte Software User,

If no news is good news, then this newsletter promises to be very gratifying :-)  That's right, no new releases, no updates and no special offers to announce for the entire month of October!

So what on earth have we been doing, I hear you ask, sipping latte's and mulling over the player statistics for the Rugby World Cup???  No!  Well not entirely anyway, we have also been hard at work on a major upgrade of Smart Pix and MegaView, which we expect to go into beta in early November.  In parallel development is a major upgrade of Power Print which we expect to be complete before the end of the year.

Don't let this put you off purchasing, as the upgrades will be free to all purchasers within the last six months or so.

As way of compensation for an especially unexciting newsletter, we have a full set of program tips this month.

Regards

Nigel Cross

* BETA TESTERS SOUGHT FOR SMART PIX/MEGAVIEW

If you are a registered user of Smart Pix Manager or MegaView and have a bit of extra time to evaluation the new release and thrash out any bugs that it contains, then please join our group of beta testers.

We expect the beta period to commence in early November and be completed within two-three weeks.

To sign up reply to this email and change the subject to "Join Beta" (without the quotes)

* PROGRAM TIPS

- Smart Pix Manager/MegaView: Batch Image Rotation

To rotate a selection of images in a folder you don't need to use the Batch Processing function, you can just select all the files and click the rotate button.  All files will be rotated and saved without prompting.  JPEG rotation is lossless, too, so there will be no reduction in quality.

- EZ-Pix:

Do you do a lot of image editing in EZ-Pix?  You can make it much easier by displaying the Editing toolbar.  Check the option under Windows|Display Settings|Editing Toolbar

- Diji Album: Adding a Button to Pause the Slideshow

If you create image display albums set to automatically play as full-screen slideshows, you might be wondering how you can offer users the ability to pause the playback at a particular image.  You can do this by inserting a slideshow toggle button using Insert|Button on the menu.

- DVD PixPlay: Checking Player Compatibility

You can check out whether a particular player will support DVD PixPlay disks by visiting our web page at:

http://www.xequte.com/support/pixplay/compatibility.html

You can also get a complete list of all supported players (around 2000 in total) at:
VCD Format: http://www.xequte.com/support/pixplay/vcd_list.html
SVCD Format: http://www.xequte.com/support/pixplay/svcd_list.html

- MailList King: Managing postal mailing lists

If you have found MLK a great tool for managing your e-mail lists, you will be glad to know that it can also handle postal mailing addresses too.  MLK supports all address fields, but you will need to change one option so that it won't block entries without an email address: "Only allow entries with a valid email address" under View|Options, Advanced

- Amaze: Automatic Wallpaper Changing

If you quickly bore with your Windows desktop wallpaper you can make Amaze automatically replace it with an image from a specified folder.  Just display the Amaze panel configuration panel and enable the new "Wallpaper Changing" option

- Power Print: Creating your own Layouts

If you have a custom page layout that you want to reuse, you can add it to your Automatic Layout list by doing the following:
i.   Set page layout to manual
ii.  Add images and/or text boxes to the page.
iii. Move and resize the items until they are in your desired layout
iv.  Right click on the page and click "Save Layout"
