Dear Xequte Software User,

Due to our continuing work on a major new release of MailList King, we have little to announce this month other than a minor update to DVD PixPlay which mostly addresses issues encountered since v1.20.

We are presently signing up beta testers for the coming MailList King update.  If you are interested, please see further details below.  The new version will be the biggest MLK release since '01 and a free upgrade to all purchasers after May 2004.

If you have any questions about your software, please drop by our User forum to discuss it with other users and our development team:

Finally, as a small company, with an even smaller marketing budget, we rely on our users to help spread the good word.  If you are happy with the software or service you have received from Xequte we would appreciate if you would let all your friends know (you could even forward them this message).

Conversely, if we have let you down in any way, please e-mail me :-)

Regards

* IS IT SAFE TO REMOVE MYSELF FROM E-MAIL MAILING LISTS?

I recently read an interesting article rejecting common PC Myths, in particular, that you should never try to remove yourself from e-mail mailing lists because it will cause you to receive even more e-mail.  The PC World report confirmed my own belief that unsubscribing from a valid mailing list (such as this one where there is a genuine reply address that matches the web site listed) will generally be beneficial.

* PROGRAM TIPS

- Smart Pix/MegaView: Making Circular Crops

You may have noticed the various selections shapes available in Smart Pix and MegaView, such as ellipses and irregular polygons, that you can use for cropping your images.  However you may have wondered how to make a crop that is exactly square or circular.  The trick is to hold down the ALT key as you resize or create your selection.  This forces the software to maintain the existing or default ratio of the crop.

Also, if you want to select multiple regions you can hold down the Shift key as you click the image.

- Diji Album: Inserting an Animated GIF into your Album

You can spice up your album pages with animated GIFs by using the Insert Clip Art function (under the Insert menu).  If the GIF image is not already in your Clip Art folder, you will need to click the "Add Clip Art button" and browse to it.  Click OK to add the image and then move it to your desired position.

- DVD PixPlay: Playback on Wide Screen TV's

If you want the slideshows you create in DVD PixPlay to take advantage of the full width of a wide screen TV, you can use the new Wide Screen option that is available by clicking the "Other" button at the bottom of the third step of the Create CD wizard.  Note this is a non-standard format that is not supported by all DVD players.  It works best when used with SVCD or XSVCD format.

- MailList King: Use of Background Texture Files

You can improve the styling of your MailList King mailers by using background texture files.  Your message will need to be in HTML format (by selecting the format option beneath the message editing area).  You can then add a background texture by clicking on the "Background" button on the toolbar and selecting the relevant option.

- Amaze: Enabling the "Pile of Pictures" effect

By far, the coolest effect in Amaze is the "Pile of Pictures," which layers successive images as if they are photographs being dropped onto a pile.

You can see a screenshot at: http://www.xequte.com/amaze/popshot.jpg

To enable this effect, choose the Pile of Pix option under "Slideshow Style"

- Power Print: Creating your own Templates

A Template is a saved document with a style or layout that you want to frequently reuse.  With a template you can easily create new documents that have the same appearance and features as the original document, including saved graphics, text, headers, footers and layout.

An example usage would be a real estate flier where most of the text and photos change, but the company and contact details remain the same.

You can create a template by opening a new document then:
1.  Set page layout to Manual by selecting Page|Manual Layout
2.  Add all the images and text that you would like in the template
3.  Move and resize the items until they are in the layout you want
4.  Change an image or text to a template item by right-clicking it and selecting "Make Template".  The system creates a space in the document for a future item of that type
5.  Save the Template by going to the File menu and selecting "Save
As Template"

The new layout is now available in the Template Wizard.
