Xequte September Newsletter: Like Déjà Vu All Over Again
1 September 2004
In this Issue:
* Seeking MailList King Beta Testers
* Program Tips
* Removing yourself from this List
Dear Xequte Software User,
Well this is an embarrassing case of déjà vu; because we are so busy with the MailList King upgrade we have nothing to report again. Two months without any real news! It's starting to feel like the National Inquirer.
Development of the new MailList King release has completed and presently it is undergoing in-house testing (in fact we are using it for this mailer) with an expected release to beta testers next week. There are so many fantastic new features that I gave up trying to squeeze them into a Top Twenty, but you can peek at the top Twenty Five at:
www.xequte.com/maillistking/newvpeek.html
If you are a registered MailList King user and interested in testing, please review the details below.
This has been our biggest and most expensive MailList King development project yet and there may need to be an "upward price adjustment", so if you are interested in purchasing, please do so now. You will receive the new version free and lock in the current price.
In the absence of news, please enjoy the extended set of program tips, and here's promising a better mailer next month (with expected updates to Smart Pix, MegaView and DVD PixPlay and - all going well - MailList King).
Thank you to everyone who has registered their software, which allows us to keep developing the products we love.
Regards
Nigel Cross

* SEEKING MAILLIST KING BETA TESTERS

* PROGRAM TIPS
- Smart Pix Manager: Adding Custom Fields to your database
You can store informational tags for each of your image and multimedia files using the custom fields functionality. This allows you to add extra fields to the database to match your own requirements, for example with digital camera images you might want to add fields for "Location", "Subject", etc.
You can view Custom Fields by selecting the relevant tab under File|File Information. To add a new field click the "Add Field" button and specify the field name. The new field(s) will be displayed in the grid and you can click in the right-hand box to modify the test for that field.
You can search your custom fields by selecting the database tab in the main window, choosing the text search option and selecting Custom Fields as your search location.
- MegaView: Using MegaView on an Image CD
We are often asked how MegaView can be placed onto a CD so that it loads automatically when the CD-ROM is inserted and displays the images that it contains.
You can do it as follows:
i. Copy all of the files from C:\Program Files\MegaView to a \MegaView\ folder on the CD
ii. Put all of the images that you want to show in an \Images\ folder on the CD
iii. Put the following file in the top level folder of the CD (e.g. if your CD is in E:\ then this file needs to be at E:\Autorun.inf):

- MailList King: When a user reports getting multiple copies of a message
If you run a mailing list (such as those created by MailList King) you will occasionally hear from list members who report that they have received multiple copies of a mailer.
Assuming your send list is unique (with MailList King a unique list of recipients is always generated before sending) then the problem is inevitably due to the user having multiple aliases or forwarding addresses.
If the user is unaware of such as alias then you will need to ask them to inspect the header of the message to see which address was used to reach them. Instructions for this are at:
http://www.xequte.com/mailinglist/getaddress.html
- Diji Album: Creating your own Borders and Photo Corners
If you don't like the bind images and image corners available in Diji Album you can easily create your own or modify the existing ones.
To edit the bind images, open the files in the folder:
C:\Program Files\Diji Album\Borders
For image corners go to:
C:\Program Files\Diji Album\PhotoCorners
(You need only create the top-left photo corner; Diji Album will automatically handle the others)
For clip art:
C:\Program Files\Diji Album\Objects
- DVD PixPlay: Using music from a CD as slideshow background music
We are frequently e-mailed by users attempting to add tracks from a music CD to their slideshow projects.
Music tracks on a CD are not actually files that Windows (or software such as DVD PixPlay) can use directly (e.g. move, copy, etc, excluding playback of tracks, which is handled differently).
So in order to access them you need to use CD ripping software to convert the music track into a file that is compatible with DVD PixPlay, with MP3 being the recommended format. There are many products that can do this, including free ones:
http://www.dailymp3.com/cdrippers.html
Naturally you should ensure the music tracks you are ripping are not copyright!
- EZ-Pix: Advanced Functions
If you are an advanced user you might benefit from some of the functions hidden by default in EZ-Pix. Firstly, go into File|Options, Other and check the option "Display Advanced Functions"
You will find that this change adds a new function under the File menu to automatically display files as they are added to a specified folder (which is useful when you automatically download images from the internet, for example). It also adds a function to the thumbnails menu to export file lists to text files.
