Upgrading to v5.*

The Database engine and format of v5.0 has changed and is incompatible with v4.* databases.  If you are an existing Smart Pix Manager user and wish to maintain your database entries please consult the following information:

REGISTERED V4.* USERS:

    If you have not uninstalled v4.* (or an earlier release) and wish to keep your database entries you should (before installing v5.0):
     
    1. Run Smart Pix Manager v4.*
    2. If you are using Blob Storage or False Extension storage then convert your storage method to Normal storage under Database|Current Database|Settings and Source Directories..
    3. Select Database|Import and Export..
    4. Export your database to a text file


    This file can then be easily imported into v5.0 using Database|Import and Export.. and will preserve all of your existing database entries.

    All Registered Users will require a new key to run v5.0.  If you have not yet received your updated key you might want to obtain a v5.0 key before performing this installation.  For information see our upgrade page.

    If you have already uninstalled v4.* then:

    • If you are using Blob Storage or False Extension storage then download v4.3 again and follow the above instructions
    • If you are only using the Normal storage method then follow the procedure for unregistered users.

OTHER USERS:
    If you want to access your v4.* database entries under v5.0 you will need to upgrade your database using the DB Upgrader, which can be downloaded from the Smart Pix Extra Files page.



OTHER INFORMATION:

  • If you are unsure you can run both v4.3 and v5.0 by installing into different directories (however you may need to create new shortcuts under the Start Menu)
  • Unregistered users can also export information from v4.3 using by creating a file list (Thumbnails|Create Thumbsheets and File Lists)
