1.  How do I copy an album to a CD/DVD using my own CD writing software?

When you use File>Build/Distribute Album, Diji Album offers an option to save your CD/DVD build to a folder on your hard drive which you can then copy to a CD or DVD using your CD writing software.  Click here to view an example of how to do this with Adaptec Easy CD Creator or Nero Express.

In order for auto-run to work you will ensure that you copy the files in the build folder to the main folder of your CD/DVD.  The main folder refers to the top level directory, that is, not in any folder within that drive.

For example, if your CD/DVD is E:\ then the root directory of your CD/DVD is E:\.  If you put the files in a folder within your CD/DVD (such as E:\MyAlbum\) then the autorun function will not work.

View the CD SOFTWARE SCREENSHOT for how you should set up your CD/DVD.

If you are putting multiple albums on a CD/DVD see FAQ #9.

2.  How many images or pages can an album contain?

There is not a limit on the number of images or pages that an album can support, but your distribution method will determine the maximum size of an album. E.g. if you are distributing via CD then your album cannot be larger than 650MB.

 3.  I cannot find the option for enabling the password protection when creating a new album, please can you give me a step by step guide to set password protection please?

  Here you go:

i.  Select File>Build/Distribute Album
ii.  Select As a file
iii.  Select the type of album file
iv.  Check the box 'Password protect created album'
v.  Complete other options as desired.  You will also be prompted to provide a password

4. I cannot locate my album that I created in Diji Album editor, is it possible to transfer it from our website back into the album?

If you are referring to an HTML album on your web site then it is not possible to convert it back to a standard ALB (compiled album) or ALP (Album project) file.

Why not do a search of our system for .alp or .pag files?

5. My photos are not appearing in my HTML album when I copy it to my web site. What am I doing wrong?

The most likely cause is that your website is on a UNIX server which is case sensitive i.e. the link is to IMG00006.JPG but the file is actually named img00006.JPG or something similar, which is not the same on UNIX but is the same on Windows.

In Diji Album enable the "Lowercase Links" setting under File>Options, Other. File>Build/Distribute  Then when you are uploading your album ensure you use the Force Lowercase setting in your FTP software.  If your FTP software does not have this function you can use the Lowercase tool on our Other Products page.

6. I have added some multimedia files to my album,  but I cannot get some multimedia formats to play, even though I can play them with other software on my computer.  Why?

Diji Album will play all files that have a valid codec (multimedia driver).  Windows should provide codecs for all common formats, but to play others you may need to download the codec. The easiest way to do this is to install one of the popular "Codec Packs". The best one is the K-Lite Codec Pack. Failing that try the Nimo Codec Pack or the Doom9 Codec List

Note that if you need to install a codec to play a particular multimedia file then recipients of your album may need to download it too. That is why it is best to use vanilla formats such as MPEG, WAV, MP3 or standard AVI.

If installation of the codec pack does not help please download the MCI Tester, run it and let us know what results you get.

7.  I was testing out the Diji Album Editor and created a sample album, with other than the default picture corner images.  When I opened the album in the Viewer (testalbum.alp) I received an error "Error encountered whilst loading corner images".

Alp files are album projects, they are generally not intended for distribution just while building the file on your PC.  When you have completed your album you need to use the File>Build/Distribute function which will bundle all the required files together into a single album file.

8.  Diji Album seems to 'flash' when changing pages. This did not happen in v2.*. How can I fix it?

Go into File>Album Properties, Album Style tab. Then change the Page Load Method to 'Load Page in Foreground'.

9.  I want to set up a CD/DVD with multiple albums and include a shelf file. What is the best way to do this?

Please read our section on creating album disks with multiple albums.
(If you only need help on editing your shelf file then read this).

10.  I have my album set up with options preventing pictures from being exported, copied or saved from my albums. However when I do a CD/DVD build they are still viewable in the CD/DVD folder. How can I protect them?

If you need security for files in your album then do not use the CD/DVD distribution option. Instead compile each of your albums as an ALB file. Then copy the albums and viewer files (C:\Program Files\Diji Album\Viewer\) to the top level (main) directory of your CD/DVD.

Please note, however, that the security method used is not "Bullet-Proof"

11.  Is there any way I can move a page without deleting it and setting up a new page? E.g. I want to move page 100 to page 25.

Here are some of the most common ways of moving a page:
- Display the page then select Page>Move Page from the menu
- Display the contents panel (using View>Contents Panel) then select a page and drag it to a new location
- Display the contents panel (using View>Contents Panel) then select a page and use Alt+Up/Alt+Down to reposition it
- Go into File>Album Properties and click the Pages tab, then select a page and drag it to a new location

12.  When I click the Page Index button on the toolbar, most of the pages display with a default (album) thumbnail rather than a page thumbnail. Why is this?

For performance reasons, page thumbnails are only created once you visit a page (or while creating the album distribution). So to create thumbnails for all of your pages you need only browse through your album pages. Note that the thumbnails will be deleted when you make changes to pages in your album, and recreated as needed.

13.  I want to export a list of files and descriptions from MegaView/Smart Pix. How do I do this?

You will need Smart Pix/MegaView, v5.3 or greater and Diji Album v3.1 or greater. These are the steps:
1. Select the files that you want to add to your album in MegaView/Smart Pix (hold the Ctrl key down to select multiple files)
2. Select Thumbnails>Other>Export to Diji Album Editor... (if this item is not listed then reinstall Diji Album Editor)

Your list will be exported. To import this into Diji Album:
1. Run Diji Album Editor
2. Create a new album file or open an existing one
3. Select Page>Import Page Wizard...

14.  I am using HTML pages in my album. Some of the HTML pages include graphics, but when i do a build these images do not appear in the HTML. How do I add them?

Diji Album does not parse the contents of your HTML to check for embedded files. To use HTML pages with embedded images and other objects do this:

1. Ensure your HTML pages only use relative links, i.e. all references should assume that the file is in the same folder, i.e. "myimage.jpg", NOT "file:\\\c:\MyFolder\myimage.jpg" (the other alternative is link to the files live on the internet, such as "http://www.mysite.com/myimage.jpg")
2. Select File>Album Properties, Statistics tab
3. Click the 'Extra Files...' button and add the files referenced in your HTML files

15.  I don't like the bind images and image corners in Diji Album.  Can I create my own?

  You certainly can.
To edit the bind images, open the files in the folder:
C:\Program Files\Diji Album\Borders
To edit the image corners, open the files in the folder:
C:\Program Files\Diji Album\PhotoCorners
You need only create the top-left corner, Diji Album will automatically handle the rest
To edit the special objects, open the files in the folder:
C:\Program Files\Diji Album\Objects

16.  How can I merge two albums (i.e. add all the images from one album to another)?

Use the function under File>Album Properties, Pages to import the pages from another album

17.  I would like to use the Button feature to show an image if pressed. However it will only show images actually on the page. I would like to be able to display images not actually on the page. For example, to display a more detailed image of the one displayed on the page. How can I do this?

  You can do this by:

1. Adding the file under File>Album Properties, Statistics, 'Add extra files...'
2. Specifying the filename in the related file space under Button properties (it will not appear in the drop down list so you will need to type it in)

18.  Can I insert a Shockwave (*.swf), Acrobat (*.pdf), Microsoft Word (*.doc) or Excel (*.xls) file into my album?

If the computer has the Shockwave/Acrobat Browser Plug-In or the relevant Microsoft software installed then you can display the file like this:

1. Select Insert>HTML file
2. In the browse dialog change the 'Files of Type' filter to All
3. Browse to your PDF, SWF, DOC or XLS file, select it and click OK

19.  I want to add a spoken commentary to each page of my album.  Can I do that?

If you have a microphone you can easily add a spoken commentary that will be played as each page is shown:
i. Go to the page of your album where you want to add a commentary and select "Insert>Sound>Record Now" from the menu
ii. Click the "Start Recording" button and speak into the microphone
iii. When you have finished speaking, click "Stop"
iv. Click "Play" to listen to the text. If you are not satisfied with it return to step 2
v. Click Save
vi. Right click the sound button that was added to your page and choose Properties
vii. Check the "Auto-play" box and click OK

To preview the effect, select Edit>Preview in View mode from the menu

20.  If I create a Default.shelf file for a CD/DVD with multiple albums, do I need to copy it to every album folder on the CD?

If you want every album on the CD to have the same list of albums on their shelf then you just need to rename the file to CDShelf.shelf and to copy it to the main/top-level folder of the CD/DVD. It will then override every Default.shelf file on the CD

21.  The background music I added to my album is not being played in the HTML album I created.  What am I doing wrong?

Web pages can only play music files on a per page basis, so to add background music to a web album you need to insert a sound file (Insert>Sound on the menu) to each of your pages and set them to Auto-play (in Properties for that object).

22.  When I insert my album disk into computers other than my own, some of the images do not display.  What have I done wrong?

I have reviewed the CD that you sent me.  The reason it does not display correctly on other computers is that the filenames on the CD have all been truncated to 11 characters.  Some CD writing software does this automatically for compatibility with old versions of Windows.  You will need to change the option to the same as Diji Album or higher.  By default, Diji Album limits filenames to 64 characters (Joliet naming format).

It displays correctly on your computer because Diji Album is able to locate the original images on your hard disk.

23.  When I preview my album in view mode, or view it on other computers, some objects have moved.  How do I stop that?

When you switch to viewing mode (or use the viewer) the page size gets larger because the editing toolbars are hidden, so all objects need to be scaled to match the extra space available. To avoid this, use the option under File>Album Properties, Album Size tab to lock the size or ratio of the album to that which you designed it.

24.  How can I display my album on a DVD player?

You need to create a special format disk that is compatible with DVD players.  Diji Album supports VCD, SVCD, XVCD, XSVCD and native DVD format disks.  Select File>Build/Distribute Album and choose the DVD player disk option.

25.  The album I have created is quite big and so I am having problems e-mailing it.  What can I do?

Most e-mail servers will reject a message that is larger than 3MB.  Here are some suggestions for making your albums smaller:

A. When building your album, make sure you specify the option to convert large images and non-JPEG formats to JPEG.

B. Try to minimize the number of video and music files in your album

C. Choose the option to create an ALB file (rather than a self-extracting album) when building it, this will make it quite a bit smaller, but you will need to ask your recipients to download our free viewer from:

www.xequte.com/djviewer/

The number of pages and the amount of text, buttons and other objects in your album do not really make much difference becuase they compress very well.

26.  How can I insert an animated GIF into my album?

You can insert an animated GIF using the Clip Art Object:
i. Select Insert>Clip Art on the menu
ii. At the bottom left click the "Add Clip Art" button
iii. Browse for your animated GIF file and click OK
iv. Ensure the animated GIF file is selected in the clip art list and click OK

Animated GIFs are also supported in any embedded web pages (i.e. by using Insert>Web Page from the menu).

27.  Why resizing an image object why does the selection area (the dashed box) not match the size of the image?

An image object contains not just the image, but can also include text, shadows and a border, all of which need to be included within the image object area. Also naturally an image needs to maintain its original aspect ratio, i.e. even if an image object box is very narrow a landscape image still needs to be displayed as such rather than stretched out as a portrait.

28.  How can I change the default font that is displayed when adding a text, link or other object?

There are three stored styles in Diji Album:
- Standard Text: Used as the default when creating Text, Image and Button Objects
- Link Text: Used as the default when creating Link Objects
- Heading Text: Used as the default when creating Clip Art Objects

You can access and save the styles using the link at the bottom left of the Text or Rich Text properties dialog.

The default font when creating a Rich Text Paragraph is the last used font.
